Last Days

Okay. So I know it’s been a while since I wrote and I sincerely apologize! Here I just get caught up in the experience and it doesn’t leave me much time to sit down and write it all out! But here I am at the end of it so I figured it’s time for a little reflection.

Tomorrow is my last day of work! I already had a mini-breakdown on Friday when I had to say goodbye to my favorite classes. I was greeted with tons of “presents” which were handcrafted drawings and various paper crafts covered in “I love you Sarah” and “Don’t go Sarah!”. I also received BRIGHT red lipstick from two girls in 3rd grade because they said it would help me get a boyfriend haha. We’ll see about that. Tomorrow I anticipate more goodbyes as I say a bittersweet adios to Torre-Cardela..

Google claims to have developed motion detecting technology with your computer’s camera and a “spacial tracking algorithm.”
In theory, you’ll be able to open, reply, and write e-mail by making exaggerated body movements.
They call it: GMAIL MOTION.
(BTW, you might want to take a look at your calendar.)

Kathrin in Valencia.

Kathrin in Valencia.

Mar 29 2011

Sorry for the lack of posts!! The last three weeks have been busy with all of the following activities that will soon appear in the form of photos and text:

1) A short overnight trip to Cadiz, where we got to take part in the Carnival festivities

2) An almost week-long visit from my 5 girl friends from UMD!!!! Wooooot

3) A spur-of-the-moment adventure to Valencia for Las Fallas, a huge firework festival

My next adventure involves Spring Break when I’ll have 12 days off and plan to go to Croatia! The decision was difficult since the trip will involve a rigorous amount of traveling but I think it will be worth it! It will also involve a 2 day stop in Venice. If anyone has advice on where to go or what to do please let me know! Besosss

Salamanca

So last weekend Kathrin and I traveled to Madrid for the puente! Among many other things, we went to Salamanca!! The group consisted of Kathrin and I, along with my two friends from studying in Barcelona, Amy & Julia, and also my friend Stephanie from home! All of them are teaching English in Madrid so it worked out great that we could have a visit. Stephanie also studied abroad in Salamanca so she was able to show us all around the city. Salamanca was absolutely beautiful and felt a lot older than some of the Spanish cities I’ve visited. It’s got arguably one of the oldest (they aren’t sure if it’s the 1st or 2nd) University in the world!!!

We visited the University facade which is covered with little trinkets. The legend says that if you can find a frog within the facade without any help, that you will pass all your exams! Needless to say, Amy found it within 30 seconds and I stood there for maybe 20 minutes frustrated until her and Stephanie started giving us clues. (See pics below)!

The cathedral was also very beautiful! Funny enough, someone who renovated it in the 90s decided to include a special something—an astronaut! The people of Salamanca were apparently really upset for a while and then eventually gave in, deciding that he IS the closest person to God haha.

My favorite part was at the end of the day when we visited Plaza Mayor and just sat. I was amazed at how many people were doing the same exact thing, just taking in the sun and the beauty of Salamanca. Also—reminded me a ton of the movie Vantage Point!!
